Small work observation
Part of my job is auditioning actors.
This means I hear about 50-70 monologues per week.
So I guess you can say I’ve gotten a fairly comprehensive view of the monologues that starting actors and actresses of all ages pick when they start to audition in Hollywood for representation.
And I am shocked at how many of the monologues are talking about how “crazy” or “bitchy” or “mean” or “controlling” women are. There is not an equivalent in monologues about men.
I’m not suggesting that all these actors and actresses think this to be true, just that these are the monologues that are picked, on mass.
Subtle societal misogyny? I think maybe.
